After
a dismissal debut with Dil Maange More things seem
to look up for actress Soha Ali Khan what with
Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti being
declared a hit. “Ever since Rang De hit the theatres
calls haven’t stopped pouring in. I am glad that the
film has done well and most importantly I am happy
that I have been appreciated,” she says.
Congrats Rang De Basanti has been declared a hit…
Thank you! I am happy not only for Rakyesh but also
all those who have contributed towards the film. You
know when I heard the script I intuitively knew that
it would leave a mark, immaterial of whether it
would be declared a hit or a flop at the box-office.
What moved me about the story was that I could
easily relate to it. It was a film about the present
generation that I belong to and somewhere deep down
I could understand how their thinking was. Plus the
film put across a message. I am not saying that I
feel strongly about any issue that the characters in
my film feel but I am glad that I got to be a part
of such beautiful venture. I was absolutely
convinced about my role.
Did you expect the film to so well received at
the box-office?
It is difficult to anticipate a film’s success. But
yes the positive feedback and the reviews in the
media indicate that the film has been largely
accepted by the masses and I am glad that I got a
chance to do such a wonderful film.
The critics are saying that where had Soha Ali
Khan hidden her talent all this while…
It was hidden in a treasure box (laughs). Seriously
I feel that I have a long way to go as an actress. I
am a baby and the more films I am doing the more I
am growing as an actress. There are so many facets
that I have still to explore and hopefully the films
that I doing will give me that opportunity. Yes you
can say that Rang De Basanti was the first film that
gave me that chance. But lot of credit should be
given to Rakyesh and the entire team who was with me
in the film. Atul Kulkarni, Siddharth, Kunal and
Sharman there were all so helpful and cooperative.
And what do I say about Aamir Khan. He is my
favourite actor. There’s so much I have learnt by
just watching him as an actor.
Any interesting offers have come your way after
Rang De…?
Well I am looking forward to this romantic film
called Ahista Ahista that I am doing with Abhay Deol
to be directed by Shivam Nayar. This film gives me a
chance to explore a completely different side of me.
Then there’s and English venture to be directed by
Los Angeles based Rajshree Ojha called Post Card.
Rajshree has already won a Student’s Oscar for the
film that she has directed there and Post Card marks
her debut as full fledge director. There four
different stories in the film. She has already shot
with Victor Banerjee and Roopa Ganguly. The story
that she has to do with me, the shooting will begin
sometime in March. There are a few other interesting
offers but I can talk about them only when I sign
the film. |
