Akshay Kumar is the
brand ambassador for Special Olympics
Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar has been chosen as the
brand ambassador for the Special Olympics. He was in
Delhi on November 27th for the opening ceremony of
the event. Accompanied by Chief Minister Sheila
Dikshit, he lit the “flame of hope.” The Special
Olympics provides year-round athletic training to
kids as well as adults with intellectual
disabilities. This training and participation in the
event contributes to their overall development.
Around 1200 special athletes from 25 states of the
country are competing in the 20 athletic events
which include 50-meters and 100-meters walk,
throwing and jumping events and floor hockey, played
on modified basket-ball court on the lines of
ice-hockey, badminton, basketball, handball, table
tennis and even cricket. Akshay Kumar hopes to
spread awareness about the cause by being associated
with it. He believes that these individuals deserve
the same respect that other athletes get. With
Akshay as the goodwill ambassador, we’re sure that
this event will get the attention that is due.
